In April of 2017 Rich McPeters and I went on a photography workshop
entitled "Charleston and Savannah" given by Andy Cook. We drove to Charleston with
Shirley and stayed one night at Susan and Joy's house. Shirley stayed on while Rich and
I drove to Jekyll Island, Georgia for the workshop. We did the first
night and next morning on Driftwood Beach with its myriad of driftwood and dead trees. We
then headed north to Savannah where we visited the Wormsloe Plantation, Bonaventure Cemetery
and the area around Forsythe Park in the city. After 2 nights we packed up and headed
for Charleston. On the way we visited the Sheldon Church ruins that were
burned in the Revolutionary War and again during the Civil War. We went down
the road and took a shot of the entrance to the Tomotley Plantation. In Charleston, we visited
Boone Hall Plantation and Magnolia Gardens. We spent an early morning sunrise in downtown
Charleston shooting Rainbow Row and the many interesting buildings along Church Street. We
went to Shem Creek to capture a row of fishing trawlers in the setting sun. Finally we
went down near the new Ravenel Bridge that spans the Cooper and Wando Rivers
between Mount Pleasant and Charleston. We spent significant time being eaten by mosquitos
while waiting for sunset and the dark with the bridge lights.
