Group Members
Former Graduate Students
Thus far, fourteen graduate students have earned their PhD degrees
from my group. Presently,
four are faculty members in universities, eight are in
industry, and two are in government.
Also, among these, twelve are US
citizens, and three are women.
I am happy to report that all of them have the kind of job they wanted.
There follows a list of my former graduate students, the year of their PhD
with me, and their present positions:
Jim Coe, '86, Associate Professor (Chem.), Ohio State University
Joe Snodgrass, '86, Senior
Research Scientist, Taylor Technology, Inc.
Carl Freidhoff, '87, Program Manager, Northrop-Grumman Corporation
Kevin McHugh, '88, Advisory Scientist, Lockheed-Martin. (Kevin won a DOE,
"R&D 100 Award", for technological innovation
in alloy solidification in '98.)
Gang Ho Lee, '90,
Associate Professor (Chem.), Kyungpook National University, Korea
Joe Eaton, '92, Assistant
Professor (Chem.), North Dakota State University
Susan Arnold, '93, DR-II Chemist, U. S. Air Force Research Laboratory,
(Space Vehicles Div.)
Harry Sarkas, '94, Senior Process Scientist, Nanophase Technologies, Corp.
Linda Kidder, '94, Director of Applications, Spectral Dimensions, Inc.
Jay Hendricks, '96, Staff Research Scientist, National Institute of
Standards and Technology
Helen de Clercq, '97, Assistant Professor (Chem.), Howard University
Chuck Fancher, '97, Staff Scientist, Stanford Research Systems
Tim Lippa, '98, Senior Research Scientist, Corvis Corporation

Former Undergraduate Students
Typically, during the school year, there are a couple of
undergraduates doing research with us, and often, an undergraduate has worked with us during the
summer months as well. While many of these have gone to medical school, several have gone on
to pursue careers in chemistry or physics. There follows a list of former Hopkins undergraduates
who have worked in my group and who are pursuing careers in science, along with the
approximate year of their bachelor's degrees, the name of the institution at which they did, or are
doing, graduate work, and the area of specialization for their doctorate.
Bob Continetti, '83, University of California at Berkeley (physical chemistry),
recently promoted to Professor at The University of California at San Diego.
Nathan Wimer, '92, University of Pennsylvania (nuclear physics)
Vivian Slager, '93, University of Illinois (physical chemistry)
Dave Sorkin, '93, Johns Hopkins University (biophysical chemistry)
Scott Witonsky, '97, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (physical chemistry)
