Center for Social Concern: The Center for Social Concern provides many opportunities to get involved in a variety of service projects without ever leaving Homewood.

Alpha Phi Omega: A co-ed service fraternity at Hopkins. Many of our members have been involved in both DXP and APO. Service events are happening all the time and many of us are members so ask if you're interested in joining in.

JHU Tutorial Project: Provides academic tutoring for Baltimore City Public School students. Either M/W or T/Th 4:30-6, on campus

ARCJHU: American Red Cross Corps of Johns Hopkins University. Many volunteer and service opportunities.

Circle K International: Chapter of the international service group at Homewood campus

Hopkins Habitat for Humanity: Weekly work groups with HfH in Baltimore

Teach Baltimore: Serve as a summer instructor to elementary students of Baltimore public schools. Help combat summer learning loss and close the achievement gap.

 

Medical Volunteering
Hope Lodge: The Hope Lodge in Baltimore provides temporary housing for cancer patients who are undergoing treatment and live outside of the immediate Baltimore area. Perhaps the most important thing that Hope Lodge provides is a supportive and home-like atmosphere.

Out and Around Baltimore
Book Thing: non-profit organization that collects unwanted books around the city and gives them away free to anyone who wants them.

Baltimore Reads: either helping educationally disadvantaged adults through literacy and job training, or helping elementary aged students.

Second Step: counseling and support services for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence

House of Ruth Maryland: One of the nation's leading domestic violence centers, helping thousands of battered women and their children find safety and security.

Turn Around, Inc.: A non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families affected by domestic violence and sexual assault/abuse, through counseling, education, support services and advocacy.

Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault: MCASA is the statewide collective voice advocating for accessible, compassionate care for survivors of sexual crimes, and accountability for all offenders.

National Organization for Women: Baltimore Chapter: NOW is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. Founded in 1966, NOW’s quarter of a million members and hundreds of chapters make a difference. Baltimore NOW has been a leader in the local and national struggle for women’s rights since it was formed in 1972.

United Way of Central Maryland: UWCM offers a plethora (I hate that word) of information on different voluteer opportunities around Baltimore. Moreover, they work closely with Hopkins staff and faculty, so you can find a ton of volunteer opportunities going around both on campus and in the community.

Southeast Senior Housing Initiative: SESHI is a community-based organization formed to help older persons remain in their homes and in the community. Involvement opportunities include friendly visiting, providing seniors with telephone reassurance, assistance with grocery shopping, transportation to medical appointments, light chores, ramp building projects and minor home repairs. Companions needed.

Our Daily Bread: Our Daily Bread provides a hot, nutritious lunch for anyone in need every day of the year. They also serve weekday breakfast to the elderly and those with special needs. In addition, groceries are made available to members of the "Food Club" and ODB serves as the mailing address for guests who have no permanent residence.
