Last year, Andrea Maselli (Gran Sasso Science Institute) and I received funding from the Italian MAECI (Ministero per gli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale). Ours is one of 18 Projects of Great Relevance (Progetti di Grande Rilevanza Nazionale) within the Italy-United States Bilateral Science-Technology Executive Protocols.
Besides supporting scientific exchanges between JHU and GSSI, the project supports the organization of two conferences. We just came back from the First GSSI-JHU MAECI meeting on Gravitational Wave Astrophysics that took place in L’Aquila (Italy) from December 16-18. The meeting was a wonderful retreat with lots of informal discussions in a hotel called Nido dell’Aquila (the eagle’s nest). Everything was great - the food, the location, and the scientific discussions.
Next year we will repeat the experience, but this time in Baltimore!
