Lax Tix -- Tickets for the Blue Jays' 1999 lacrosse season are now available. To receive two complimentary season passes, faculty and staff members should bring a valid university I.D. to the main office in the Athletic Center between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. All full-time students get free admission by showing their JCards at the gate.

Camp Counselors Needed -- Counselor positions are available for the JHU Summer Day Camp, held in the Athletic Center from June 14 through July 23. Interested individuals should call Robert Babb at 410-516-7485.

The 1999 Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts -- Graduating seniors at Homewood and fourth-year medical students are invited to compete for the 1999 Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts. The chief criterion for the $1,500 prize is excellence in music, theater, dance, writing, filmmaking or visual arts.

Interested students should submit the following materials no later than Fri., March 5: a completed application form; at least two examples of the student's work; and a letter of recommendation from a Hopkins faculty member. Homewood students should submit materials to Julia Morgan, 240 Garland; medical students, to Franklin Herlong, 124 Medical School Administration Building.

The Sudler Arts Prize Committee simultaneously considers candidates for the President's Commendation for Achievement in the Arts, a service award to honor a graduating senior who has contributed extensively to the arts in the Homewood community. Direct all questions and requests for application forms to Julia Morgan, coordinator of the Sudler Prize Committee, at 410-516-4697 or 410-516-8132.

Retirement Planning -- Two pre-retirement planning workshops are planned for March. The workshops are designed for individuals in the middle stages of retirement planning, who have 10 to 25 years to go until retirement. Topics will include retirement planning, asset allocation, annuities and investment management.

The workshop scheduled for the Homewood campus will take place Monday, March 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The East Baltimore workshop will take place Thurs., March 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Location will be provided along with a confirmation notice.

Villa Spelman Student Fellowships -- Applications are invited from graduate students who wish to participate in the Program in Social Theory and Historical Inquiry at the Charles S. Singleton Center for Italian Studies at the Villa Spelman, Florence, in the fall semester of 1999.

Students from all departments are welcome to apply, provided they can demonstrate the importance of this seminar for their work and the usefulness of spending a period of residence in Italy for successful completion of their doctorate. A limited number of fellowships will be awarded, and some travel money is available. Tuition is not covered.

If interested, students should submit a letter of application along with a brief recommendation from a faculty adviser to Anthony Pagden, 312 Gilman, and to the director of Villa Spelman, Elizabeth Cropper, 268 Mergenthaler, on the Homewood campus. The application should explain how the seminar relates to the student's program and why it would enhance the applicant's long-term intellectual development. Deadline for applications is Fri., March 12.

Community Service Grants -- The Alumni Association's Community Service Grant Program provides funding to support students who create their own ventures in cooperation with existing volunteer organizations. Past projects in all divisions of the university have included Teach Baltimore and Hands to the Homeless.

The program was designed to provide learning experiences for Hopkins students and to foster positive relationships between the university and its surrounding communities.
