John Rothrock, retired Air Force colonel and specialist in 21st-century strategic issues, will present a lecture, "Your Tax Dollars and the Military-Industrial (and Congressional) Complex," at noon on March 31, in Shriver Hall on the Homewood campus. According to Rothrock, the de facto conglomerate of Pentagon, industrial and congressional interests is much more ominous now in its workings than when President Dwight D. Eisenhower first warned of it nearly 40 years ago. Rothrock finds that it thwarts the kind of military reform necessary to protect American security in the coming decades. Retired in 1990, Rothrock spent most of his 21-year military career in intelligence and strategy in a variety of fields and Pentagon assignments. His last military assignment was as senior fellow in strategy at the National Defense University, in Washington. The lecture is part of the Wednesday Noon Series presented by the Office of Special Events. Admission is free.
