![]() Jazz and food were enjoyed outside Shriver Hall last Thursday at the university"s official kickoff event for the 1999 United Way Campaign. The event began on a more serious note as speakers told the many gathered inside Shriver how important it is for the Hopkins institutions to reach their combined campaign goal of $1.7 million. Kai Jackson, a news anchor for WJZ-TV and one of the speakers, said there are "folks out there who need a little help," and each United Way contribution "means the world to them." The music was provided by the jazz band of the Paul Laurence Dunbar Sr. High School.
