Help Homeless Families -- The Johns Hopkins University Women's Network is collecting new baby items for Sarah's House, a residential facility for homeless families that provides emergency shelter and transitional housing, meals, personal care items; access to phones and mail; licensed child care; transportation; parenting and life skills training; substance abuse assessment and counseling; and case management.

Items requested for collection include disposable diapers, wipes, lotion, gentle shampoo and/or body wash, powder, bottles, rash ointment and first-aid supplies. Items can be dropped off from Dec. 17 to Jan. 4.

Pilot Project Grants -- The Johns Hopkins NIEHS Center in Urban Environmental Health is offering Pilot Project Grants of up to $15,000 for April 1, 2002, through March 31, 2003.

The grants are designed to stimulate new lines of research on such topics as the adverse health impact of hazardous environmental exposures on populations of low socioeconomic status; how the interaction of socioeconomic status and environmental exposure contributes to health disparities; early biological effects of environmental agents in urban populations; community outreach and environmental health education; and the molecular epidemiology, exposure assessment and mechanisms of action of agents found in the urban environment.
