Blood Drive Scheduled -- The next Johns Hopkins University blood drive is scheduled for April 19, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and for April 20, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The drive will take place in the Glass Pavilion, Levering Hall, on the Homewood campus.

Community Cleanup -- Volunteers are needed for the sixth annual East Baltimore Community Cleanup, scheduled for Sat., April 21, 8:30 a.m. to noon. The JHHS Community Services Department is teaming with HEBCAC, JHU's Physicians for Social Responsibility and other community organizations to clean 10 square blocks adjacent to JHMI's East Baltimore campus. Trip to Williamsburg -- The International Society is planning a trip to Williamsburg, Va., on Sat., April 21, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Transportation is on a luxury motor coach; price includes bus fare, light breakfast on the bus, admission to Colonial Williamsburg and refreshments on return trip to Baltimore. The deadline for purchasing tickets for the trip is April 13.

Call for Nominations -- The JHU Women's Network is accepting nominations for the first Women's Leadership Award. This award, which will be given annually, recognizes women for outstanding leadership at Hopkins; it will be presented at the Hopkins Women's Network Spring Luncheon on May 18.

Anyone may nominate a woman who has provided leadership to others at the university. All nominations must be submitted on the appropriate form and received by the committee no later than April 13.

Occupational Health Services Classes -- The Department of Occupational Health Services, in conjunction with Benefits Administration, is offering the following classes and programs for JHU faculty and staff.

Yoga will be offered on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings beginning April 30. The cost is $25-$45 for the eight-week session.

Muscle conditioning and toning will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:15 to 1 p.m. on the Homewood campus, beginning April 30. The cost is $20-$40 for the eight-week session.

Seated massage will be offered on both the Homewood and East Baltimore campuses. The 15-minute seated massage, given by a certified massage therapist, is offered for a reasonable fee. For more information or to register, call 410-516-0450.

Hazard Communication Training -- The Office of Health, Safety and Environment offers training programs to educate Hopkins personnel about maintaining safe work environments. Two programs are offered on a routine basis on the Homewood campus.

Hazard communication training helps employees find information associated with any material in their workplace. The training is required by federal and state law for all employees on a onetime basis. Employees hired in 1998, 1999 and 2000 received the training if they attended new employee orientation. All other employees should attend one of the hazard communication training sessions, scheduled to take place on the second Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. in the Arellano Theater in Levering Union.

JHU employees who handle or are exposed to materials containing blood or body fluids as part of their normally assigned duties must attend a bloodborne pathogen training session once a year. This training is also mandated by federal and state law and Johns Hopkins University policy. The training is offered on the second Wednesday of each month at 3:30 p.m. in Arellano Theater in Levering Union.

The next scheduled date for the hazard communication program, which begins at 3 p.m. and the bloodborne pathogen safety training program, which begins at 3:30 p.m. is April 11.

Organ Transplant Donor Awareness Week -- In celebration of National Organ Transplant Donor Awareness Week, the JH Comprehensive Transplant Center will have information tables set up in the Broadway corridor of the hospital April 16-18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Organ donor cards will be available for signing, and former transplant patients will visit and share their stories.
