Swing dance-lovers came from as near as the Homewood campus and as far as Pennsylvania and New York to help the university ring in its anniversary year at "Swingin into the 125th!" A sellout crowd of 600 packed Homewood's Newton H. White Athletic Center on Feb. 18 to kick up their heels and listen to the lively sounds of Pittsburgh's Paul Cosentino and the Boilermaker Jazz Band; New York's George Gee's Jump, Jive and Wailers; and Hopkins' own Sixth Dimension.

"It was a good mix of Hopkins and community people," said Deborah Pankey-Mebane, director of the Office of Special Events, which sponsored the event. "We saw people of every generation, from grade-school students to seniors--and they were lined up before the doors even opened." "The swing dance was a smash. Great style, great rhythm, wonderful dance outfits, super music," said Ross Jones, vice president and secretary emeritus of the university. "A terrific way to celebrate an anniversary."
