If you're using a computer connected to the Johns Hopkins network, you now have online access to The Chronicle of Higher Education, the academic world's top source of news and information.

The Sheridan Libraries, which announced the arrangement on June 25, said that Johns Hopkins is one of only eight institutions participating in a one-year trial of a site license to The Chronicle.

Faculty, staff and students have access to the entire Chronicle Web site http://chronicle.com.

which includes daily updates as well as supplements that do not appear in the print edition. The complete contents of the newspaper, which is printed on Friday, are available on the Web the following Monday morning. In addition to the current issue, the site contains a fully searchable archive of more than 12 years of The Chronicle.

JHU users also may connect from off campus via the RAUL (Remote Access to University Libraries) service. For details, see proxy.hcf.jhu.edu.

Online features of The Chronicle include:

A daily briefing on developments in higher education.

Daily reports on developments in information technology of interest to faculty and administrators.

Daily updates on grant opportunities.

Statistical data about everything from faculty salaries to campus crime.

"Issues in Depth": collections of articles, documents and data on some of the most important issues in higher education.

Links to Internet resources for higher education.

"Career Network," which includes advice on careers in academe and a searchable database of job notices.
