Free Health Screenings -- The Division of Vascular Surgery will hold free screenings for blood vessel disorders such as aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease and peripheral vascular disease, on Saturday, May 18. People ages 60 and up who smoke or have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol or history of heart disease are at high risk for these conditions and should be screened.

The clinic, located on the seventh floor of the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center, will be open starting at 9 a.m. For more information, or to make an appointment, call 410-955-2618.

Applications for Certificate in Nonprofit Studies Program -- The Johns Hopkins Institute for Policy Studies is now accepting applications for its fall 2002 classes in the Certificate in Nonprofit Studies Program.

Baltimore Postcards -- Anthea and Bert Smith share their collection of 160 vintage, full-color postcards in their book, Greetings From Baltimore: Postcards From Home, on Tuesday, May 14, at noon, in the Berman Auditorium at the Downtown Center.

The postcards include nostalgic harbor, downtown and neighborhood scenes, famous department stores, well-known restaurants and other attractions, ca. 1905-55. For information, call 410-516-4234.

Welch's Free Dial-in Modem Access to End -- The Welch Medical Library's dial-in modem service will end on June 30. Welch modem hardware has become obsolete and unreliable, and its modem speed too slow to meet the needs of faculty and students.

A wide choice of Internet service providers is available to current modem users. Using an ISP, it is possible to access Welch's online journals, books and databases through the Remote Access to University Libraries (RAUL) service. The Internet address for RAUL is

Cooley Center Open Golf Tournament -- The sign-up period has begun for the second annual JHU Cooley Center Open Golf Tournament at the Clifton Park golf course in Baltimore. The tournament will be best-ball format, four players per team. The cost is $18 per player, which includes cart. Sign-up period ends Tuesday, June 13, when all fees are due.
