On the heels of an announcement of a British government-sponsored National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth that will be modeled in part on Hopkins' Center for Talented Youth, Stephen Timms, school standards minister for Great Britain, paid a visit to the Homewood campus. Here, he met with CTY leadership who will serve as advisers to the program and also with teachers, four CTY students and their parents. Staff briefed Timms about the Hopkins program and updated him on trends in gifted education in America. Students gave testimony to the benefits of CTY specifically and supplemental gifted programs generally to their educations. Journalists from major U.K. newspapers accompanied Timms on his visit, and articles profiling CTY and the four students appeared in The Times of London and The Guardian.
