![]() More than 100 guests arrived at the School of Nursing on June 12 to witness the unveiling of the portrait of former Dean Sue K. Donaldson. Donaldson stepped down from her position as dean last summer to resume her notable career in research. She continues to be on the School of Nursing faculty and holds a joint appointment at the School of Medicine.
At the unveiling, nursing professor Maryann Fralic spoke about Donaldson's many contributions, including her tireless effort in championing construction of the new School of Nursing building. University Provost Steven Knapp read a letter from President William R. Brody in which Brody lauded Donaldson's leadership in several areas including research, community health nursing and advancement of the school's academic reputation. Brody wrote, "I think it is altogether fitting that Sue's portrait will adorn the walls of the Anne M. Pinkard Building and remind many generations of nurses to come of the great achievements made during her term as dean."
The portrait was painted by Virginia artist Stephen
Craighead and will hang in the boardroom.
