'007: The Adventure Begins

They arrived at Homewood on Friday and Saturday from
47 states and 36 foreign countries. An accomplished and
eclectic group, the class of 2007 includes an equestrian
champion who has performed as a pianist at Carnegie Hall, a
video game developer, a certified ballroom dancing
instructor, a keyboardist for a rock act, a national math
champion and a cancer survivor who has started a national
Asian-American bone marrow registry, to mention just a
few.
The 1,052 freshmen — 33 percent of them accepted
early decision — came from a record pool of 10,024
applicants. At the same time, Johns Hopkins admitted the
smallest share of its applicant pool ever, 30 percent.
Also, the university has enrolled the largest percentages
in its history of both women and minority students. Of
particular note is the number of African-American freshmen:
80, a 19 percent increase over the 67 African-American
students who were freshmen in fall 2002.

African-American, Hispanic/Latino and Native American
students)
