Nearly 200 people attended the event, including President William R. Brody, Provost Steven Knapp, deans, faculty, staff and alumni. Sue Donaldson, professor and former dean of the School of Nursing, served as master of ceremonies.
Busch-Vishniac, who came to Johns Hopkins in 1998 from the University of Texas at Austin, will step down at the end of her five-year term later this month and assume her faculty position as professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In honor of her tenure as dean, Busch-Vishniac was presented at the event with a Heritage Award from the Alumni Association, a book of tribute letters and a lectureship, the Ilene Busch-Vishniac Engineering Lecture for outstanding women in the engineering sciences. The purpose of the annual lecture is to highlight the intellectual contributions of the lecturers and to inspire young women to pursue degrees and careers in engineering. At the close of the evening ceremony, attendees joined to sing a rendition of "The Johns Hopkins Ode."
