An "Ask the Expert" series, which includes an opportunity to complete a colon cancer risk survey and pick up literature about colorectal cancer, will take place this week from 10 a.m. to noon in three locations: March 10, Weinberg L2; March 11, Weinberg Lobby; and March 12, Weinberg Lobby. From March 17 to 21, the Johns Hopkins community is invited to pick up literature, see a video display, ask staff questions about the risk for colon cancer and have a healthy apple snack. March 17, 19 and 21 events will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Broadway Corridor, next to JHH Cafeteria; March 18 and 20 events, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at JHOC, corridor level. Participants who complete a colon cancer risk survey will be entered in a drawing for prizes. Colon Cancer Awareness Week is sponsored by the Hopkins Colon Cancer Center and the Johns Hopkins Hereditary Colorectal Cancer Program.
Muscle conditioning and toning classes will be held from 12:15 to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning March 11. Cost for the 10-week session is $25/$45 for once/twice a week. Free classes to teach the basics of CPR with additional AED will be held on two Thursdays, March 20 and April 17. Yoga classes (all levels) will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning March 31. Cost for the 10-week session is $30/$50 for once/twice a week. Seated massage will continue to be offered on the Homewood and Eastern campuses. Cost for a massage, given by a certified massage therapist, is $10. Registration takes about 15 minutes and involves completing a short health questionnaire and having a finger-stick to obtain a small amount of blood for tissue typing. Once your tissue type is known it can be entered into the NMDP's database, which is searched daily by patients needing a marrow transplant to live. Typing will take place on March 10 at the School of Medicine, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., 113 PCTB; March 11 at JHH, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Broadway Corridor; March 12 at the School of Nursing, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Carpenter Room; March 13 at Public Health, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Anna Baetjer Room; March 14, at JHH, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Broadway Corridor.
