Women's Activist Patricia Ireland to Talk on Gender Gap
in America

Patricia Ireland
|
Former National Organization for Women President
Patricia Ireland will discuss "What's Sex Got to Do With
It? The Gender Gap in America" at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct.
22, in Shriver Hall Auditorium on the Homewood campus. The
45-minute lecture will be followed by a question-and-answer
period, and a reception and book signing in Shriver's
Clipper Room.
Ireland's speech is part of the 2003
Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium, The Great American
Experiment: A Juxtaposition of Capitalism and Democracy, a
student-run series examining how the two pillars of
American society — capitalism and democracy —
interact, and how their interactions affect Americans.
From 1991 to 2001, Ireland led one of the largest and
most visible feminist organizations in the United States.
During her tenure, she organized NOW activists to defend
abortion rights, elect women to political office, work more
closely in coalitions with other social justice and civil
rights groups, and champion international feminist
issues.
