Professional Clothing Drive

The JHU professional clothing drive begins Oct. 15. Separate any unwanted, gently used — or new — professional apparel and donate these to help homeless men and women successfully re-enter the workforce.

Attend Mobile@Hopkins Event

All Hopkins affiliates are invited to register to attend Mobile@Hopkins, scheduled for Oct. 12 at the Turner Concourse on the JHMI campus. The main goal of this all-day event is to acquaint the Johns Hopkins community with the potential uses of mobile technology in education, health care and research and to encourage the further adoption of this technology. Learn about the latest in mobile technology including PDAs, tablet computers and other mobile devices. More than 400 people are already registered.

Sessions include Intro to Handheld Computing, In-class Voting, Wireless@Home, Tablet PCs in the Classroom, Use of Wireless PDA Devices with Hopkins E-mail Systems and Mobile Devices to Enhance Classroom Instruction. For more information, and to register, go to


Community Outreach Project

On Sat., Oct. 23, JHU volunteers will assist Civic Works with its second annual Ricky Myers Day of Service. The event commemorates a former staff member of Civic Works and the organization's mission by engaging hundreds of volunteers on 10 service projects throughout Baltimore City.

Volunteers are needed for team-based efforts such as transforming abandoned lots into landscaped parks and gardens and neighborhood cleanups.

Register for Diversity Day

Those individuals who are curious about public health issues affecting ethnicities in the United States or who are considering research, teaching, traveling abroad, developing health care programs or simply touching lives in other places around the world should take part in the School of Public Health's Diversity Day, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 5. Welch Medical Library Dedication Anniversary

On Nov. 3, the William H. Welch Medical Library will celebrate the 75th anniversary of its dedication. The celebration will begin at 3 p.m. in the Mountcastle Auditorium where a series of speakers, including Nobel Prize winner Peter Agre, will kick off the festivities. A reception will follow in the West Reading Room of the library.

Along with this historic event, Welch has developed a Web site full of history and photos designed to remind friends and patrons of the library's past. Go to
