Pianist Yong Hi Moon will make her debut with the Peabody
Symphony Orchestra at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, in
Peabody's Friedberg Hall. Gustav Meier will guest conduct
the orchestra for this concert that includes Mozart's
Concerto for Piano in E-flat, K. 482 with Yong Hi Moon as
soloist. The concert begins with Cherubini's Anacreon
Overture. The Hindemith Symphony Mathis der Maler, drawn
from the composer's 1934 opera of that name, concludes the
program.
Yong Hi Moon, who joined the Peabody Conservatory
faculty two years ago, was earlier a Preparatory faculty
member and a student of Leon Fleisher. She performs
regularly in Korea with the Pusan Philharmonic and other
orchestras, and gives frequent recitals in Seoul. She also
has been soloist in Japan with the Tokyo and Osaka
philharmonics and in the United States with many
orchestras.
Meier has directed the Peabody Conducting Program
since 1996. He is music director of the Greater Lansing
(Michigan) Symphony Orchestra and the Greater Bridgeport
(Connecticut) Symphony Orchestra and appears regularly as a
guest conductor in Europe and South and Central America.
