In conjunction with this week's open house on the university's Montgomery County Campus, the Johns Hopkins University Engineering Programs for Professionals will present a free lecture, "Obtaining Venture Capital for Technical Entrepreneurs," featuring venture capitalist Stefan Strein, managing director of NextGen Capital in Reston, Va. The lecture inaugurates EPP's new graduate certificate program in entrepreneurship and innovation, jointly offered with the School of Professional Studies in Business and Education. The program is a response to the business community's growing need to prepare engineers and technical professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs (who develop new enterprises within a corporation) and innovators. Advisers will be on hand during the open house to provide information about the program.

Strein, who has spent 10 years as a venture capitalist investing in early-stage technology companies, will discuss the often maddening and uncertain process of securing funding.

The open house, at which prospective students can learn about more than 60 graduate programs offered on the Montgomery County Campus, will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10. The lecture will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Current students and other interested parties, as well as prospective students, are invited to attend.
