Their arms filled with gifts gathered and purchased
with donations collected over recent weeks, the Johns
Hopkins
men's lacrosse team made
their way last week to Homewood's Levering Hall, where they
gave gift bags to all 120 children in the
Johns
Hopkins Tutorial Program. Each child received books,
school supplies and toys or games. On Dec. 19, the team
will be providing similar bags to approximately 60 children
affiliated with the Greenmount Recreation Center.
The team, spearheaded by assistant coach Seth Tierney,
worked with Chaplain Sharon
Kugler to develop their plan, which grew beyond their
expectations. The team and coaching staff collected toys,
school supplies and more than $3,000, allowing them to
provide items to 200 children and also 13 single-parent
families living in the Meeting Ground shelter. In addition
to providing gifts to the shelter residents, the team will
be stocking the house with food for the holiday.
