300 Years of Music in Maryland

David Hildebrand

Musical Maryland: Three Centuries of Song in the Land of Pleasant Living" will mix performance and scholarly discourse when David Hildebrand and Elizabeth Schaaf headline this week's Wednesday Noon Series at Homewood.

Hildebrand and Schaaf are the authors of a forthcoming JHU Press book from which their program takes its name. Hildebrand, an independent music scholar, and Schaaf, an archivist at Peabody, will discuss and perform music written and sung by Marylanders. Concert hall music, militia quick steps, drinking songs, marches, work songs and tunes written for the first Orioles baseball team will be supported by illustrations from the Peabody Library, the Maryland Historical Society and the Peale Museum.

Presented by the Office of Special Events, this event is co-sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University Press. It begins at noon on March 24 in Shriver Hall, Homewood campus. For more information, call 443-287-9900.
