Building Nursing Capacity for Safety Initiatives is a
five-day program for nurses who want to become safety
champions and lead interdisciplinary safety programs.
Scheduled for Feb. 26 to March 3, the new academy will
prepare participants to identify and prioritize
organizational safety issues; use a diverse set of safety
measures and tools provided in the clinician toolbox; plan,
implement and evaluate a safety improvement plan at the
unit or organizational level; develop expertise as a safety
champion and change agent; and make the case for safety by
analyzing and presenting data in a compelling way.

Complementary, Integrative Med Practitioners
Sought
The Johns Hopkins
Center for Complementary and Integrative Medicine, the
clinical counterpart to the Center for Complementary and
Alternative Medicine, is attempting to identify employees
who are licensed in Maryland to practice complementary and
integrative medicine (e.g., acupuncture, massage, etc.).

Animal Care and Use Committee Updates
The Animal Care
and Use Committee revised the animal use protocol forms
in October 2004. Beginning in February, the office will not
accept protocols submitted on the old forms.

To develop transportation routes that protect the
well-being and safety of animals and the public, the ACUC
has been working with the JHI Department of Health Safety
and Environment. Tours of the routes should be available in

Entries Due for Young Investigators'
Day
The 28th annual Young Investigators' Day, established in
1978 to recognize young investigators who are training at
the
School of Medicine and to provide them with a forum for
presentation of their work, will be held on April 14.
Entries for awards must be turned in between 9 a.m. and 3
p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11, in 501A PCTB.
Awards will be made for clinical research with active
or historical patient involvement, laboratory research with
direct clinical relevance and laboratory research without
direct clinical relevance.
The committee, comprising School of Medicine faculty,
will consider all applications for all eligible prizes and
will make awards in the best interest of each applicant.
