Reaching out in East Baltimore
New tri-school office acts as match service for volunteers, community


The SOURCE team gets a bird's-eye view of East Baltimore.

Looking for volunteer opportunities in East Baltimore? Head to the SOURCE. Johns Hopkins' new Student OUtreach Resource CEnter is now open on the East Baltimore campus, providing for the first time in the institutions' history a single office to help both students and staff in the schools of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing reach out to the neighboring communities. The office also functions as a clearinghouse through which community groups can request volunteer help.

NIH begins public access policy
The published findings of some of the nation's leading health researchers will soon be a click away for the masses. Beginning May 2, National Institutes of Health-funded investigators will be requested to submit voluntarily to the NIH's PubMed Central an electronic version of their final research manuscripts upon acceptance for publication.

APL's Michael Griffin confirmed as head of NASA
On April 13, the U.S. Senate confirmed President Bush's nomination of Mike Griffin as the 11th head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Griffin, who was serving as head of the Applied Physics Laboratory's Space Department at the time, immediately stepped into his new position.
