Commemorating Martin Luther King Jr.

Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, founder and
president of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, was the keynote
speaker at the Johns Hopkins Institutions' 23rd Annual
Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration. The event, which took
place earlier this month, awarded nine Johns Hopkins
employees, five from the university and four from the
hospital, with the institutions' annual Martin Luther King
Jr. Awards for Community Service. The employees received
recognition for their volunteerism and community work
during 2004. Here, Kweisi Mfume, former head of the NAACP;
Jackson; and Levi Watkins, professor of cardiac surgery and
chair of the commemoration, field questions from the media
during a brief press conference following the
event.
