The amateur film of the Johns Hopkins Hospital unit during World War II had warped and deteriorated so much that Dale Levitz, Hopkins medical video producer, could barely make out the film�s shadowy figures. "Most of the film appeared grainy and dark," she said. "The film was also somewhat shrunken, making it jump in the viewer and difficult to watch."

JHU-led center to study, develop e-voting systems
A federally funded center dedicated to
improving the reliability and trustworthiness
of voting technology,
drawing on experts in computer science,
public policy and human behavior, will be
based at The Johns Hopkins University, the
National Science Foundation announced
Aug. 15. Researchers from five other institutions
nationwide will participate in the
project, which is aimed at addressing public
concerns about the growing use of electronic
voting machines in local, state and national
elections.
