Powerful Online Citation Manager

Johns Hopkins affiliates now have free access to a powerful online citation manager, through IT@Hopkins and the Welch Medical Library. The program is valuable to anyone who works with grants, manuscripts, academic papers, reprints and many other types of documents.

RefWorks is a Web-based program for gathering, managing and utilizing citation information. It creates properly formatted bibliographies, capturing citation information from a wide range of databases (PubMed, Academic Search Premier, OCLC FirstSearch and many others) and in a variety of output styles. Users can send citation information from full-text articles to their RefWorks account or connect to full-text from their RefWorks account. They can toggle between seven different languages and can access references from lab, library, office or on the road. RefWorks is well suited to collaboration.

EndNote and Reference Manager users will find that RefWorks has nearly identical features to those programs, plus much more. Log on using your JHED ID and password at portal.johnshopkins.edu/refworks.

CLF Innovation Grants Request for Proposals

Proposals are due July 15 for Faculty and Student Innovation Grants, 2005-2006, from the Center for a Livable Future. The grants support innovative, interdisciplinary and/or interdepartmental study by faculty, fellows and students.

Grant Writing Workshop

The Professional Development Office at JHMI is sponsoring an intensive workshop on grant writing to assist new faculty, clinical fellows and postdocs with writing an NIH or other peer-reviewed grant application. Cost is $1,100, payable with tuition remission.

The workshop consists of a full-day didactic session on Monday, July 25, which all participants attend, followed by a small discussion session on one of four dates: Aug. 24, Aug. 25, Sept. 8 or Sept. 9.
