Provost's Undergraduate Research Awards
In an effort to encourage undergraduates to engage in
research activity, the Provost's Undergraduate Research
Awards program was initiated in 1993. The program was
founded on the belief that involvement in research not only
enhances a student's learning experience but helps develop
important skills in proposal writing, obtaining research
funding, carrying out a project and reporting the
results.
Hundreds of students have since participated in
projects embracing topics as diverse as archaeology, art
history, gene development and techno-pop music.
The research is performed in either the summer or the
fall, and any freshman, sophomore or junior in Arts and
Sciences, Engineering, Nursing or Peabody is eligible to
apply for the awards, which are granted in amounts of up to
$3,000 with the option of conducting the research for
academic credit. The Hodson Trust has donated funding for
this program.
Applications for summer proposals are due by noon on
March 4, and for fall by noon on April 1, in the office of
Theodore O. Poehler, vice provost for research, 276
Garland, Homewood campus. For more details, go to www.jhu.edu/pura or
call 410-516-8671.
