Obituary: Coaching Assistant Killed in
Crash
Michael Durgala, a former star player and an assistant
coach of the baseball team, was killed on Aug. 3 when the
1995 Saturn he was driving was involved in a chain-reaction
crash in Baltimore County. He was 23.
A 2005 graduate of Johns Hopkins, Durgala was a
two-time Second Team All-Centennial Conference selection.
The former infielder started in 123 games, posting a .366
career batting average with 26 home runs and 133 RBI. He
also worked in the Athletics Department as an
undergraduate.
During his first year on staff, he served as the
team's strength and conditioning coach and worked with the
catchers.
A native of Annandale, Va., Durgala majored in
computer science at Hopkins.
As of press time, funeral plans had not been
finalized.
