Hari Prabhakar, a 20-year-old junior who juggles
double-major studies while running health programs for
impoverished people in India, paused for just a few minutes
last week to catch his breath and acknowledge an important
award. USA Today had just recognized him as one of
20 undergraduates nationwide named to the newspaper's 2006
All-USA College Academic First Team.

Feb. 22: A day to celebrate
Break out your Hopkins garb and school spirit; the
university is set to stage a new take on an old and
somewhat languishing tradition. To honor the founding of
the university 130 years ago
— on Feb. 22, 1876 — a revamped Commemoration
Day celebration will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on
Wednesday on Homewood's Levering Quad, which will be decked
out in school colors and banners.

First RAVE data offers clues to Milky Way

An international team of astronomers has released to
the public the first data collected as part of the Radial
Velocity Experiment, an ambitious spectroscopic survey
aimed at measuring the speed, temperature, surface gravity
and composition of up to a million stars passing near the
sun.
