A group of graduating seniors met recently to write
thank you notes to nearly 600 classmates who contributed to
the most successful senior class gift in school history. As
of May 16, 54 percent of the class had made gifts that
totaled more than $10,000 — besting efforts of recent
years in which 5 percent to 13 percent participated. The
Second Decade Society had challenged the class to meet a 50
percent participation goal and will donate $2,006 to the
class gift for meeting that goal. Seniors had the choice of
making their gift to one of four campus initiatives: the
Hopkins Fund, providing scholarships, teaching initiatives
and library support; Blue Jays Unlimited, supporting the
Nest and tailgating at games; Senior Week 2007; or the
Tutorial Project, bringing Baltimore City schoolchildren to
the Homewood campus for tutoring.
