Second- through eighth-grade students from Baltimore
City schools display the first-place trophies they earned
at the second annual citywide chess tournament, hosted by
Hopkins' Center for
Talented Youth at its Mount Washington headquarters on
May 19. Participation rose 28 percent over last year, to
154 students, with 70 percent more schools represented, for
a total of 43. Linda Lee, assistant professor in the School
of Medicine's Department of Gastroenterology and
Hematology, helped revive the city's chess program, which
is now a cooperative effort of the Baltimore City schools,
CTY, the Abell Foundation and the Baltimore Kids Chess
League.
