Packard Center for ALS Research to Host 5K
Race
Baltimore's Power Plant Live! is the starting point for the
Fiesta 5K and Fun Run, a major fund-raiser that combines
Cinco de Mayo festivity with exercise to benefit the Robert
Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins. The event
begins at 8 a.m. on Sat., May 5, and directs runners and
their cheering squads on a path from 34 Market Place
through the Inner Harbor, ending at the Power Plant.
The race, the Packard Center's first, is aimed at
raising funds for new therapies to slow and ultimately cure
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's
disease.
The Packard Center is a collaboration of scientists
worldwide, working aggressively to develop new treatments
for ALS. It is the only institution of its kind dedicated
solely to the disease. Its mission is to translate
laboratory breakthroughs to the clinic as quickly as
possible.
Fiesta 5K sponsors include Aegon, SunTrust, Bully!
Commercial & Entertainment Media, and Comcast. Entry fee is
$20 in advance and $25 on race day. Paid participants will
receive a T-shirt with original artwork by Bully! Awards
ceremony follows the race. For more information, call
410-735-7677 or visit
