'The Vagina Monologues' to Be Performed This
Week
As part of the global 2007 V-Day campaign, students
and staff from the schools of Nursing,
Medicine and Public
Health are this month raising funds and awareness to
stop violence against women and girls by hosting academic
discussion forums, a dinner and swing-dancing fund-raiser,
a silent auction and two benefit performances of The
Vagina Monologues.
Eve Ensler's award-winning play — the highlight
of the V-Day Campaign — will be performed at 7 p.m.
on Friday, Feb. 16, and Saturday, Feb. 17, in Turner
Auditorium, East Baltimore campus, under the direction of
Laura Cappelli, a medical student, and Caitlin Gerdts, a
master's degree student in Public Health. Tickets are $10
($8 with JHU student ID) and can be purchased at the door
or in advance. For more information, contact the show's
producer, nursing student Susana Vega, at
[email protected].
Proceeds from the Johns Hopkins V-Day events —
planned and implemented entirely by volunteers from the
three schools — will benefit Baltimore's victims of
domestic violence at the House of Ruth Maryland and
Adelante Familia.
