Help Needy Families
Johns Hopkins employees can brighten up the holidays for
needy area families
through two holiday efforts sponsored by the Office of
Faculty, Staff and Retiree Programs: the
Vernon Rice Memorial Butterball Turkey and Adopt-a-Family
programs.
The Vernon Rice Memorial Butterball Turkey Program,
named in honor of the staff member who
started the effort in 1993, provides Butterball turkey gift
certificates to families in need. FSRP
works with St. Anthony's of Padua Church in West Baltimore
to identify recipients. To participate,
send a check or money order, in $15 increments and made
payable to JHU Butterball, to the Office of
Faculty, Staff and Retiree Programs, 631-N. Wyman Park,
3400 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD 21218-
2693. Checks must be received by Nov. 15 to help families
with Thanksgiving and by Dec. 14 to assist
with the December holidays. For more information, download
a flier at
www.jhu.edu/butterball.html.
The Adopt-a-Family/Adopt-an-Agency Program provides
families and individuals with gifts,
clothing and food that they might not otherwise be able to
afford. Details on the specific needs of
pre-identified families and social service agencies are
available for faculty, staff, students or
departments that wish to participate. Those interested in
helping are asked to complete an online
request form available at
www.jhu.edu/~hr1/fsrp/adopt_fam_form.html.
For more information, go to
