A special adaptation of Wit, the powerful
Pulitzer Prize-winning play about a woman transformed by
cancer, is coming to the Baltimore Museum of Art on
Thursday, April 19. Presented by the Johns Hopkins
Berman Institute of Bioethics, The Power of Wit
stars actress Megan Cole performing the play and giving a
special commentary on empathy, forgiveness, dignity and
care of the dying. To help commemorate the 10th anniversary
of the Berman Institute of Bioethics, there will be no
admission charge. The program will begin at 7 p.m.
The Houston Press calls Cole's performance as Dr.
Vivian Bearing, a 17th-century English literature
professor, "intelligent, deeply ironic and full of utterly
wicked wit. [Her] character is a woman at war with advanced
stage-four ovarian cancer ... . Getting sicker day by day,
she discovers that she wants most what she has denied
herself and her students all along: kindness and
tenderness."
The performance will be followed by an expert panel
discussion on death and dying in the American health care
system.
Reservations are required. To reserve your seat, RSVP
