No Stranger to the Game

Provost Kristina Johnson can't resist the lure of
lacrosse.
The high school she attended in Denver didn't have a
girl's team, but she didn't let that stop
her — she played midfield and attack on the boy's
team. During her undergraduate days at Stanford,
she co-founded the women's lacrosse program there and
played several offensive positions for the
Cardinals. She later helped found the Palo Alto women's
club team and qualified for the nationals while
a player. (A superb athlete, Johnson also suited up for
Stanford's varsity field hockey team and later,
while living in Ireland, played cricket at the
international level.)
Lacrosse has remained close to her heart, and it
didn't take her long after arriving at Johns
Hopkins to become a big Blue Jays supporter. Last week,
coach Janine Tucker invited her to the
sidelines for a home game vs. the University of Denver.
(Hopkins won, 13-7.) Here, Johnson shares a
moment with Jody Houck, mother of senior midfielder Kirby
Houck.
