Nominations Sought for Neighborhood Fund Allocation Committee

In its rollout year, the Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund, launched during the 2007 United Way Campaign, brought in pledges of more than $164,000 from staff and faculty interested in contributing to the welfare of the communities surrounding the Johns Hopkins campuses. Self- nominations are now being sought for the committee that will play a central role in determining how best to distribute the funds.

The 2008 Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund Allocation Committee will be made up of employees representing the diversity of the Johns Hopkins Institutions. The committee will evaluate and give priority to grant applications to ensure that the assets of the Neighborhood Fund are maximized so as to best represent the interests of Johns Hopkins employees.

The Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund will provide grants to organizations that serve members of the communities surrounding the institutions' campuses and that have a strong relationship with the institution and its employees. The fund's mission is to assist those in need, with a focus on addressing the health, educational, public safety, employment and community revitalization interests of residents.

Nominations to the committee are open to those who contributed to the Neighborhood Fund, with preference given to individuals with significant involvement with community organizations. A supervisor's signature will be needed on the nomination form with agreement that the employee can take part in three or four meetings during business hours between February and August. The online nomination form, as well as additional information about the Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund, can be found at

Employees who do not have computer access may contact the Office of Faculty, Staff and Retiree Programs at 410-516-6060 for a paper nomination form. Nominations must be received by Tuesday, Feb. 12. For more information, go to or call 410-516-0345.
