Summer Softball Teams

The summer softball season in East Baltimore is scheduled to begin the first week in June, with games on Monday and Wednesday evenings. The season lasts about 10 weeks, followed by a double-elimination tournament.

This social league is open to all students, staff, faculty and their significant others of Johns Hopkins Hospital; the schools of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing; and Kennedy Krieger Institute. Each team pays an umpire fee of $12 per game and must supply one new ASA official softball. Each team is also responsible for supplying its own bats, gloves, bases and first-aid kit. League fees should be approximately $240.

Registration forms are due April 20. There will be a meeting for team representatives at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 27. The league fee is due that day payable by money order or business check to Director of Finance. Personal checks will not be accepted.

Hopkins employees who are interested in fielding a team should contact Jennifer Taylor at 443-850-6973 or by e-mail to [email protected].

Intensive English as a Second Language

Hopkins Summer IELP, the Intensive English as a Second Language Program for students and professionals, is scheduled for June 29 to July 31.

The full IELP offers two daily core courses, Oral Communication and Reading/Writing, and an elective in TOEFL Prep, American Culture or English for Medical Professionals, providing more than 22 hours a week of language instruction. Single course options are also available. A variety of summer activities, including sailing, picnics and Orioles baseball, complement the classroom experience.

All classes are offered at the Homewood campus, except English for Medical Professionals, which is held at the East Baltimore medical campus. Courses are open to Johns Hopkins faculty, staff and their families. Tuition remission may apply.
