Tower of Power

Using the only two construction
materials allowed — a pound of pasta and two pounds of
marshmallows — a team of Engineering students builds its
entry in last week's Tower of Power contest. The event,
sponsored by the Hopkins Undergraduate Engineering Society to
kick off Engineer Week 2009, gave 29 teams of up to five members
30 minutes to test their building skills. The winning entry was
constructed by seniors Annie Ng (BME), Nina Xu (BME), Julie Xue
(biology) and Will Feng (BME) and topped out at 68 inches, a new
record for the competition. About 120 students took part and
were cheered on by a crowd of another 100.
