The School of Nursing and the Nitze School of Advanced International Studies presented their 1996 teaching awards during their respective ceremonies last week. The Gazette featured teaching award winners of the other academic divisions in the two previous issues.

This year, the School of Nursing gave Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Awards to the following two faculty members:

An instructor in the school's undergraduate program, Jordan also holds a joint appointment at Hopkins Hospital as a clinical nurse specialist, cross-training nurses in perinatal and labor and delivery nursing. She recently received a regional award for Excellence in Practice from the Association of Women's Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses.

In addition, the school presented one faculty member with the Caroline Pennington Award.

The Caroline Pennington Award is given annually to a full- time faculty member teaching in the undergraduate program. It is named for a 1918 graduate of the nursing school who worked at Hopkins Hospital and who, later in life, gave the school a gift of $1 million to endow a chair in the name of a former nursing superintendent at Hopkins. Maguire currently coordinates the school's undergraduate pediatrics course.
