Historic Houses
Get Star Treatment

Famous home fix-it man Bob Vila, and Hopkins historic houses curator Mary Adair Dockery, joined in filming an episode of a two-hour TV special, Bob Vila's Guide to Historic Homes in America, at Homewood House, Oct. 14 and 15.

In this episode of the show, which highlights architecturally interesting tourist spots across the country, Dockery leads a tour through the Federal-period mansion while Vila points out many of the house's unique features. Dockery impressed the crew so much as she glided flawlessly through the tour that she earned the title "One-Take Mary."

Three days later, a crew from the show American Castles visited Evergreen House for an episode called Barons of the Railroad. They spent four days filming the exterior and interior of the mansion, which was purchased in 1878 by John Work Garrett, former president of the B&O Railroad, for his son T. Harrison Garrett. Both shows will air on the Arts & Entertainment network later this year.
