![]() Those who participate in this year's United Way campaign could win one of a number of exciting prizes in recognition of their contributions. In an effort to encourage participation by Hopkins faculty and staff, local merchants have donated goods and services including an overnight stay in a Baltimore hotel and movie and theater passes. All the prizes, said United Way campaign coordinator Judy Peregoff, are provided free of charge as an in-kind contribution to the Hopkins effort. "No United Way funds are spent in soliciting or acquiring these gifts," Peregoff said. "We call around to local merchants, and many of them are happy to help with this because they understand the value of United Way giving." The purpose of the lottery is to encourage United Way participants to make their pledges early. Anyone who donates $35 or more is eligible to win. The public drawing will be held Wednesday, Nov. 5. All pledge forms returned by Nov. 4 will be included in the drawing, which typically awards 20 or so separate prizes. "Giving to the United Way helps our community and our neighbors with more than 300 agencies throughout Central Maryland," Peregoff said. "The lottery is just a way that local businesses can say thank you to all of us for the contributions we make." Following is a partial list of lottery prizes to be awarded to randomly drawn United Way donors. More prizes will be added in the coming weeks.
