Health Care Occupations HB979/SB923 Occupational Licenses - Denial for Criminal Conviction - Notice of Prohibition and Task Force Clarifying that specified departments of State government and specified units in specified departments of State government are prohibited from denying a specified license to an applicant solely on the basis that the applicant has previously been convicted of a crime except in accordance with specified provisions of law; requiring specified departments of State government and each unit that issues specified licenses in specified departments to post specified notice on their Web sites in a specified manner; etc. Hearing Date: Tue 3/8 1:00 PM Effective Date: July 1, 2016 HB998/SB1020 State Board of Physicians - Authority to Adopt Regulations - Physician Licensing Reciprocity Authorizing the State Board of Physicians to adopt regulations that would allow the Board to license an applicant who is licensed as a physician in another state if the applicant meets specified qualification and licensing requirements and the state in which the applicant is licensed offers a specified reciprocal licensing process. Hearing Date: Mon 3/14 1:00 PM Effective Date: October 1, 2016 HB1114/SB482 State Board of Physicians - License Renewal - Grace Periods Providing that specified licensed physicians and allied health professionals regulated by the State Board of Physicians have 60 days after a license expires in which to renew it retroactively under specified circumstances; providing that, after a specified grace period has ended, specified licenses lapse into a nonrenewal status; etc. Hearing Date: Mon 3/14 1:00 PM Effective Date: October 1, 2016 [GO TO TOP] [GO TO BILL LIST] HB992 Health Care Malpractice Claims - Health Care Alternative Dispute Resolution Office - Repeal Repealing provisions of law relating to the Health Care Alternative Dispute Resolution Office; terminating the Health Claims Arbitration Fund; requiring the clerk of a court to forward to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene copies of specified pleadings and certificates of a qualified expert; requiring the Department to forward to the State Board of Physicians copies of specified pleadings and certificates of a qualified expert; etc. Hearing Date: Wed 3/2 1:00 PM Effective Date: July 1, 2016 [GO TO TOP] [GO TO BILL LIST] HB872/SB1016 Maryland Wage Payment and Collection Law - Awards of Certain Fees and Costs and Prohibition Against Retaliation Authorizing a court, on a specified finding in an action on behalf of an employee for a violation of the Maryland Wage Payment and Collection Law, to award the Attorney General reasonable counsel fees and other costs; authorizing a court, on a specified finding in an action by an employee for a violation of the Wage Payment and Collection Law, to award the employee reasonable counsel fees and other costs; prohibiting an employer from taking specified adverse action against an employee under specified circumstances; etc. Hearing Date: Tue 3/8 1:00 PM Effective Date: October 1, 2016 HB909 Task Force to Study Paid Parental Leave Policies Creating a Task Force to Study Paid Parental Leave Policies; providing for the membership, chair, and staffing of the Task Force; requiring the Task Force to study and make recommendations regarding the costs and benefits of paid parental leave for State employees for the birth or adoption of a child; requiring the Task Force to make a specified report on or before December 31, 2016; and providing for the termination of the Act. Hearing Date: Tue 2/23 1:00 PM Effective Date: July 1, 2016 HB929/SB1032 Health Occupations - Prohibited Patient Referrals - Exceptions Providing that specified prohibitions on referrals do not apply to a health care practitioner who has a specified beneficial interest or compensation arrangement that fits specified exceptions in federal law or regulation; providing that specified prohibitions on referrals do not apply to a health care practitioner who has a specified beneficial interest or compensation arrangement for which the federal Department of Health and Human Services has issued a specified waiver; etc. Hearing Date: Mon 3/7 1:00 PM Effective Date: October 1, 2016 HB956/SB741 Criminal Procedure - Expungement Providing that a person is entitled to expungement of an invalidated arrest warrant for the person's arrest and associated police records; authorizing a person to file a petition for expungement no earlier than 10 years after the person was convicted of a misdemeanor; prohibiting the filing of a petition for expungement based on a probation before judgment earlier than the date the petitioner was discharged from probation; etc. Hearing Date: Tue 3/8 1:00 PM Effective Date: October 1, 2016 HB1003/SB481 Labor and Employment - Equal Pay for Equal Work Altering a specified provision of law concerning equal pay for equal work to prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identity; prohibiting an employer from discriminating between employees in any occupation by providing less favorable employment opportunities based on sex or gender identity; prohibiting an employer from taking any adverse employment action against an employee concerning the disclosure or discussion of an employee's wages; applying the Act prospectively; etc. Hearing Date: Tue 3/1 1:00 PM Effective Date: October 1, 2016 HB1004 Equal Pay Commission - Establishment Establishing the Equal Pay Commission in the Division of Labor and Industry; providing for the composition, chair, and terms of specified members of the Commission; specifying that the Governor shall appoint the chair of the Commission; requiring the Commission to take specified actions; requiring the Commission to submit a specified report to the Governor and specified committees of the General Assembly on or before December 15 each year; etc. Hearing Date: Tue 3/1 1:00 PM Effective Date: June 1, 2016 Legislative Session Office Legislative Hotline is a service of Johns Hopkins Government Affairs. © 2016 The Johns Hopkins Institutions.
