Some English words can be formed phonetically by alphanumeric sequences, such as DK (decay) or K9 (canine). In this puzzle, the eight radial entries, from the rim to the center, and the horizontal entries 9, 10, 11, and 12 are of this type. However, the circumferential (across) entries starting at 1, 3, and 6 are "normal" crossword entries.
