Pianist Kevin Kenner Performs Chopin at Hopkins

The Johns Hopkins University Office of Special Events presents International Chopin Competition winner Kevin Kenner in Fifteen Scenes From the Life of Chopin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, in Shriver Hall, located on the university's Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles St. in Baltimore. This event is co-sponsored by the Peggy and Yale Gordon Trust.

Commemorating the 150th anniversary of Chopin's death, Kenner's multimedia recital illustrates events in the composer's life through paintings of places he lived and visited and through letters by Chopin, his friends, and contemporaries. University of Maryland, Baltimore County, theater professor Sam McCready will narrate.

A former student of renowned pianist and Peabody Conservatory teacher Leon Fleisher, Kenner is the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Triple Prize Winner. He has been soloist with the Halle Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the Warsaw Philharmonic as well as with symphony orchestras like San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Baltimore, and Rochester. Kenner has been invited to work with many renowned conductors, including the late Sir Charles Groves, Andrew Davis, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Jiri Belohlavck, and Kazimierz Kord. This past year marked his Carnegie Hall debut and his fifth appearance at London's Wigmore Hall. He has recorded the Chopin Preludes for Polygram and frequently records for the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Polish Radio.

Tickets are $16 for general admission; $13 for senior citizen; $10 for full-time students with ID. Group discounts are available. For information, call the Office of Special Events, 410-516-7157.
