Re: Renowned Author, Professor to Speak at Johns Hopkins

Francis Fukuyama, the political scientist whose groundbreaking book, The End of History and the Last Man , received worldwide acclaim, will speak at The Johns Hopkins University as part of the 2001 Symposium on Foreign Affairs.

Fukuyama, who is the Omer L. and Nancy Hirst Professor of Public Policy at George Mason University, will speak on "Social Capital, Globalization and Development" at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 8 in the Schaffler Auditorium in the Bloomberg Center for Physics and Astronomy on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles Street, in Baltimore.

His talk is free and open to the public.

The theme of this year's Symposium is "Interconnections: The Interaction of Developed and Developing Nations." Fukuyama is the second speaker in the series.

"Dr. Fukuyama will add an exciting academic dynamic to the symposium. As a best-selling author and as one of the leading international relations scholars of our time, we are thrilled that he agreed to join us," said symposium co-chair Arati Shroff.

Francis Fukuyama gained public recognition following the 1992 release of his book, The End of History and the Last Man, which made the bestseller lists in the United States, France, Japan, and Chile, has appeared in over twenty foreign editions, and received two book critic awards. He will join the faculty of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington this summer, becoming the Bernard L. Schwartz professor of political economy.

WHEN: Thursday, March 8, 2001 at 8 p.m.
