News Release
Decorative Arts Local artist Scott Ponemone will celebrate the relationship between Baltimore's architecture and decorative arts with 45 new watercolors that will be exhibited at both Evergreen House and Homewood House Museum. To create these watercolors, Ponemone sketched historic sites around Baltimore that included Evergreen House, Homewood House, Mount Clare Museum House, Clifton Mansion, Hampton Mansion, the Unitarian Church on Franklin Street, Lloyd Street Synagogue, Grace and St. Peter's Church, and the Basilica of the Assumption. He would then return to his studio and create a series of paintings of each site that combined the architectural elements of the building with details from the decorative arts inside. These imaginative images underscore the complex interplay of art and architecture and invite the viewer to look anew at these familiar places to gain a heightened appreciation of each. Scott Ponemone's Baltimore: The Interplay of Art and Architecture will open at Evergreen House on Friday, May 18, with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Ponemone's images of Homewood House and Clifton Mansion will be on exhibition in the Back Hall of Homewood House Museum and will open to the public on Wednesday, May 23, with a reception from noon to 2 p.m. Both openings are free to the public. John Dorsey, curator of this exhibition, will give a gallery talk and Ponemone will conduct an outdoor painting class at Evergreen House. Please call 410-516-0341 for details. The exhibition at both Evergreen House and Homewood House Museum will run through September 30.
