Folk Singers Fink and Marxer to
Perform at Hopkins
Three-time Grammy-nominated folk duo Cathy Fink and
Marcy Marxer will give a concert, "Celebrating Folk
Tradition," at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in Shriver Hall
on The Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, 3400 N.
Charles St. in Baltimore.
As longtime troubadours on the folk scene, Fink and
Marxer have won praise for their tight harmony, song writing
and interpretations of traditional folk music. They sing,
yodel, harmonize, spin tales and reach out to the audience,
which takes part in their celebration of the folk tradition.
They draw on traditional and contemporary folk, country,
swing and world music. Their songs consider topics from love
to labor and history to today's news, and include comedy
about middle age and parenting. They accompany themselves on
acoustic and electric guitar, banjo, mandolin, dulcimer,
steel drums, penny whistle and percussion instruments.
Between them, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer have released
more than 30 albums and videos. Three of their recent family
recordings earned five national awards. The Washington Area
Music Association has awarded them 31 WAMMY awards for folk,
bluegrass, instrumental and children's music.
This concert is part of the Wednesday Noon Series
presented by the university's
Office of Special Events, now in
its 36th season of cultural programming on the Homewood
campus. All programs in the series are held from noon to 1
p.m. in Shriver Hall on the Homewood campus, 3400 N. Charles
Street in Baltimore. They are open to the public, admission
is free, and no tickets are required. For information, call
410-516-7157.
